Rainwater harvesting is where rainwater is collected from roofs and stored in underground or aboveground tanks until required for use.  When required the water is mechanically pumped to the point of use, toilets, washing machine, outside garden tap, this reducing the demand on mains water and saving money on metered bills.  Industry experts are now starting to understand the importance of rain water harvesting and its help in reducing the amount of water being displaced into the the ground and intern help reduce localised flooding.  Rainwater demand is also exceeding supply and this trend is only going to increase and push water bill prices up.  Planning authorities will at some point in the near future require all new build properties to include such systems as part of there code of sustainable home.
